Glamping with hot tubs
Good for you mind and body too and apparently science even agrees……

Whether it’s for a romantic stay away or for a family holiday or group get together glamping with hot tubs really does work for everyone, but did you know that hot tubs also offer some surprising health benefits?
Researchers at the University or Coventry compared ‘passive heating’ aka sitting in a hot tub with aerobic exercise and, it turns out sitting turns out in hot water is actually incredibly good for you. Akin to some of the benefits of aerobic exercise……now I am not saying you should forgo all exercise but just sitting, relaxing in hot water…maybe with a glass of red wine (although they didn’t test that!) could be better for you than you think.
You might be think why can’t you just use your own bath? We’ll apparently the water staying hot is key to the benefits. One of the study’s authors, Charles James Steward, thinks you should sit in a hot tub at around approximately 40C (104F) for an hour. Another study look at the use of whole body heating – hyperthermia as a treatment for depression and concluded that “Whole-body hyperthermia holds promise as a safe, rapid-acting, antidepressant modality with a prolonged therapeutic benefit.”
The researchers looked at the benefits of sitting in hot water in a (probably quite a boring) lab, so we reckon doing it whilst glamping with a view of the sunsetting over the Welsh hills or with a view of the milky way is probably even better for you!
So whilst the advice doesn’t say you should stop exercising and replace it with sitting around in hot water there are real benefits for mind and body of relaxing for prolonged periods of time in a hot tub. And, rather biasedly we think it is probably better if you come glamping with hot tubs and really reap the benefits of sitting around in nature and admiring the Welsh scenery.
If you fancy coming glamping in Wales, Canvas & Campfires have two private hot tubs on site, one outside Beudy Bach – The Little Cowshed and one with Seren one of the luxury safari tent lodges.
We think there is something about slipping into warm water when you are outside that seems to make everything better. From a northern hemisphere point of view, it also makes being outside after dark a much simpler affair. Stargazing is pretty special here too as we are just on the edge of a Dark Sky reserve. You can see The Milky Way in all its glory and it is even possible to see the Northern lights form the farm, we’ve seen them a couple of times in the past year.
They are also really good entertainment and lots of our guests start the day with a hot tub, especially if it’s a bit dreary when you get up, soak the morning away and have a think about what to do when the day brightens up a bit.
A hard day’s walking or mountain biking, why not slip into the hot tub and ease those aching muscles and warm yourself up from the inside out.
Kids are bored why not stick them in the tub with a pair of goggles and something to retrieve from the bottom, this works especially well in the morning when the hot tub has cooled down a bit.
We have even had three hot tub proposals!……But why take our words for it here are some press reviews of the hot tub at The Little Cowshed/Beudy Bach, including one from The Guardian who voted one of the top 20 cosy cottages for a winter break.
If we’ve tempted you to book you can do that here.
